Did you use to think that acne was only a teenage problem and that you would outgrow it once you became an adult but was disappointed? If so, then you are not alone. According to the latest findings, close to 50 million people in America alone are affected by acne, with quite a number being adults.
According to dermatologists, acne is mainly caused by the clogging of the pores on your facial skin as a result of over-production of oil by the sebaceous glands. However, along with this cause, there are certain things that you could be doing unknowingly that could be leading to your acne breakouts. Below are some of the triggers that may surprise you.
Lots of spicy foods
Most spices usually contain an acidic substance known as lycopene. This substance may throw off the PH levels of your skin, and this could trigger breakouts. This lycopene substance is mostly found in tomatoes and peppers. However, this does not meant5ha you stop taking spicy foods. You should just watch out for any spice that tends to trigger your acne breakouts.
Your hair products
Some of the products that you are using on your hair may be wreaking havoc on your facial skin and triggering your acne breakouts. Most hair products contain sulphates, silicones, and heavy moisturising agents. These products can seep into the pores of your skin and make them be blocked. This will, therefore, lead to more acne on your face, chest, and back or along your hairline.
You are smoking
Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen that is supplied to your tissues. This means that the amount of oxygen supplied to your face reduces whenever you light up a cigarette. The carcinogens that are contained in the smoke will also trigger your acne breakouts as they will dry out your skin. Your skin will definitely respond by producing more oil hence causing acne.
Too much skin-scrubbing
When you have acne on your face, you may get so desperate to remove them that you may resort to scrubbing your face too hard. You may scrub it with a wash cloth or a cleaning brush in an attempt to make your skin appear smooth. Unfortunately, this will only worsen the problem as it will spread the acne bacteria all over your skin. Gently washing your face is the best option to avoid making your acne worse.…
