The Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Grigio are grown in Valdadige. The production area of the Valdadige wines is shared by three provinces in two regions: Bolzano and Trento in Trentino-Alto Adige and Verona in the Veneto. The province of Trento accounts for the greater part of the production. There, as in the rest of the region, grape growing and winemaking have extremely ancient roots. It appears that the Illyrian peoples, who originated in Greece, introduced the first vines into the region. A large number of varieties are cultivated, producing wines that are quite dissimilar. However, the wines do have a pronounced personality that is readily identifiable. Vinilandia selected single varietal wines, each giving a good representation of their varietal characteristics.
The Chianti (DOCG) is produced in the Chianti region of Tuscany. Chianti, as a wine, is linked to a precise and well-defined geographical area. Chianti's early success was due in great part to the strict enforcement of the regulations of the League of Chianti. The league's rules represented a sort of disciplinary system in embryo. As part of its regulatory mission, the League categorically prohibited the initiation of harvesting before September 29 (the feast of St. Michael). A major role was played by Baron Bettino Ricasoli. The Baron, a member of the Accademia dei Georgofili, tested and retested various grape mixtures until he found the right balance. It is the same blend used today in making Chianti: Sangioveto, Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia.
Giuseppe Nicolis, owner and wine maker of the Nicolis winery as well as a partner in VINILANDIA USA, oversees the production of the wines from Valdadige. The wines are produced in a state of the art winery on the River Adige.
Marco Mazzarrini, owner and wine maker of Poggio Amorelli as well as a partner in VINILANDIA USA, is responsible for the production of the Chianti which is produced in a modern facility just south of Florence .
The growers exploit to the fullest the great potential represented by the excellent land on which their vineyards are planted. With the support of viticulture experts, they have made specific varietal selections for each micro-zone, which is cultivated with the maximum respect for the environment. A careful balance between leaves and fruit is essential in order to reduce vineyard treatments to a minimum and to obtain healthy grapes.
