La Kiuva
Location:
Valle d’Aosta, located in the north east of the Italian peninsula, is the smallest of Italy’s regions. It borders Switzerland to the North, France to the West and Piedmont to the South and East . In Valle d’Aosta the vine is cultivated at the feet of four of Europe's highest mountains, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and the Gran Paradiso. This mountainous territory is traversed by a river, the Dora Baltea, and a central valley approximately 80 km in length, which branches off into numerous lateral valleys. The morphological formation of the valley produces natural ventilation that descends from the peaks of the mountains along the lateral valleys and merges in the central corridor.

The Alpine climate is characterized by cold winters with heavy snowfall and cool, breezy summers that favor the cultivation of vines without need for many pesticides. The average annual precipitation is approximately 800-1000 mm and rain is concentrated in the Spring and Autumn periods.

La Kiuva Cooperative, whose headquarters are in Fraz. Pied de Ville, 42, Arnad, Valle D’Aosta, was founded in 1975.
The wine-producing area in which La Kiuva cooporative operates is spread out over the mouth of the valley, from the municipality of Hône to the municipality of Montjovet.
Winery:
The main site was built in 1975. It was one of the first wineries to be established in the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta. The first harvest and the very first wine date back to 1979.

The entire vinification process has been carried out on the 600 square meter premises since 2008. A lot of storage space is needed, but instead of building new cellars La Kiuva decided to breathe new life into the many beautiful old buildings that grace the village of Arnad. These buildings have cellars where the wine can be kept in optimum conditions: at a constant temperature all year round and at complete rest in the dark.
Vineyards:
Many old vineyards in a state of semi-abandonment are currently being re-established to provide a total of 15 hectares of vineyards.
The management covers all aspects, from the choice of plant varieties and clones to their positioning in terms of altitude, exposure and orientation and finally to cultivation practices, thinning out the vines and the harvest itself. The best batches of grapes come from these vineyards, all of which are small or very small in size.

All the vineyards are located between 380 (1,250 ft) and 500 (1,650 ft) meters above sea level, with the white and aromatic varieties being planted at the higher levels and the vineyards at the lower levels producing wine with greater structure and body that is aged in wood.
