HISTORY

In the 14th century, the Sant’Appiano Farm belonged to the Gherardini family, then in the 15th and 16th centuries to the Catellini’s of Castiglione. Successively it passed to the Pitti, Ughi and Ghibellini families. All of them great noble families mentioned in a.o. Dante’s Paradise (XVI Canto) and many other historical volumes.
They were succeeded by the Muzzi and Pier Francesco di Guccio of the Gucci of Florence until today’s owners, the Cappelli family. The farm is situated in the village of the same name, located in the hills between Florence and Siena in the Elsa valley, an area inhabited since ancient times due to its favourable geographical position within Tuscany. The area is well known for a number of archaeological finds and family tombs from the Iron Age until the days of the Roman Empire.

S. Appiano is one of the oldest farmhouses producing Chianti wine in Tuscany, situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the Chianti region.
Since more than 40 years it is one of the most famous producers of the Chianti area. The wines are the result of years of experience, an unlimited love for land and nature and a serious resaerch in the wine producing methods.
