LOCATION
The farm is located in Montalcino, on the road to Castelnuovo dell'Abate,
Sant'Antimo. Situated at 475m (1,585 ft) above sea level, in a hilly region that characterizes a major portion of this area with its sheer undulations, its generally fertile soils, open to the influence of a mild climate. This area is very well suited for the cultivation of vineyards or other arboreal plants, such as olive trees. The Pliocene
hills, present in most of the area, also determine different types of landscapes, according to the soil composition, be it sandy or clayey. The Azienda
Scopone is part of this reality presenting soils that are slightly sandy or clayey-sandy.
WINERY
Being a new construction (started in 1996), the cellar has been designed with the aim of integrating the most modern winemaking technologies and the wisdom and experience of the centuries-old Tuscan wine-producing tradition. State of the art pumps, de-stemmer, pneumatic press and individualy computer
controlled fermentation and storage tanks in combination with French oak barriques
and Slavonian oak barrels are used to obtain wines rich of color, aromas, perfume, and highly equilibrated.
VINEYARDS
Characterized by a clear prevalence of Sangiovese Grosso, the vineyards have been planted between 1995 and 2000, choosing with maximum care the stocks and clones
that would best fit the different soil types.
With the help of the best agronomists, vines have been constantly taken care of with
traditional methods. Green pruning and the equally accurate and extremely strict sorting of grapes during the harvest create a low yield per acre allowing the production of wines of absolute quality.
